Details Contained On The Register
The Individual Insolvency Register contains details of:
- Current bankruptcies or those that have ended in the last 3 months
- Current individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) and fast track voluntary arrangements (FTVAs)
- Current bankruptcy restrictions orders (BROs) and undertakings (BRUs).
Details NOT Contained On The Register
The Individual Insolvency Register omits information about:
- Company insolvencies
- Insolvencies in Scotland or Northern Ireland
- Disqualified directors
- Bankruptcy orders that have been annulled or withdrawn.
Searching The Register
You can search the register online www.insolvency.gov.uk, by post, fax, or in person, by your local official receiver's office. All searches are free of charge and cover England and Wales. You can use the surname to search online.
Alternatively, you can search by post or fax.
You can download a search form pdf from www.insolvency.gov.uk and fax to 0121 698 4407. Or post the form to: The Insolvency Service Bankruptcy Public Search Room 4th Floor, East Wing 45-46 Stephenson Street Birmingham B2 4UZ Fax: 0121 698 4407.

Information Listed On The Register
Bankruptcy order information listed on the register includes:
- The bankrupt's name (including any other names by which the bankrupt was known) and date of birth
- Last known address
- Trading and occupation information
- Current bankruptcy order details
- The date the bankrupt was or will be discharged.
Individual and Fast Track Arrangements information listed on the register includes:
- The debtor's name
- Last known address
- Current arrangement details
Bankruptcy restrictions orders or undertakings and interim bankruptcy restrictions orders information listed on the register includes:
- The bankrupt's name (including any other names by which he or she was known) and date of birth
- Last known address
- Trading and occupation details
Removal From The Register
Records for bankruptcy stay on the register for three months after the date of discharge from bankruptcy, while IVA and FTVA records remain on the register until completed, terminated or revoked. (If bankruptcy is withdrawn, details come off the register immediately).
BRO and BRU records remain on the register until they expire or complete, or if a bankruptcy is annulled or withdrawn
